about
The Foxies’ particular brand of ebullient pop music has always depended on a certain degree of raucous enthusiasm—the sense that singer Julia Lauren would be jumping up and down on the bed and belting these tunes out alone in her room if there weren’t a studio mic in front of her. That infectious sensibility shows no signs of dissipating: Borrowing as much from glam as from rock, the trio has again mined mischievously anthemic gold in the frenetic veins of “Screws,” the Nashville-based group’s latest single. “The liquor on my shelf is makin’ faces at me,” Lauren sings, right before the Incredible-Hulk-goes-jogging thump of the beat kicks into a refrain so perfectly calibrated to high-energy, sugar-rush pop, it feels like it’s always existed. A classic celebration of embracing your idiosyncrasies, the track hearkens back to Warped Tour-era Katy Perry, bubbly and devilish in equal measure with an avowed goal of getting every kid (and inner kid) yelling along in gleeful recognition of feeling overwhelmed—and being okay with that. lyrics
My screws are loose I think that I
Swallowed a few in late July
Or maybe back when I was five
Cuz I’ve never been like all of the other guys
Or anybody else
I’m talking to myself
The liquor on my shelf is making faces at me
My screws are loose, I know that I
Got more to lose before I die
Ohhhh blah!
I bummed myself some rollerblades
So I could learn to roller skate
Oh
Just like I did when I was ten
Now both my wrists are broke again
Ohhhh
It’s a quarter life crisis
I’m talking to myself
The liquor on my shelf is making faces at me
My screws are loose, I know that I
Got more to lose before I die
Oh
I’m losing my shit
My screws are loose, it’s not a drill
Don’t wanna take your crazy pill
Ohhhhhh blah!
My eyes sometimes hurt when I lie
Awake in my bed I don’t mind
"Bee bee ba ba doo
Bee bee ba ba doo"
In my head all the time, I don't mind
My screws are loose, I know that I
Got more to lose before I die
Oh
I’m losing my shit
My screws are loose, it’s not a drill
Don’t wanna take your crazy pill
Ohhhhhh blah!
